Aquabac Xt* is a highly effective, US EPA-registered biological larvacide.

It contains a species of bacteria called bacillus thuringiensis, an approved larvacide for controlling red worms and midge flies in wastewater treatment plants and waterways.  Aquabac Xt can either be poured into the head of your plant or before the clarifier, depending on where you have the problem.

If left alone, the midge flies will cause poor setting, high TSS and disrupt the bacterial environment.

This is a highly effective technology and is a nice alternative to Strike.™

BLUE CRYSTAL


Blue Crystal disinfecting tablets are a special microbiocide developed exclusively for use in residential wastewater treatment applications. Designed for positive disinfection during low, sustained, variable and intermittent flow rates that are common to residential systems, the potent Blue Crystal formulation reduces 99% of bacteria within the first ten minutes of contact. Blue Crystal tablets are a preferred, safe alternative to dangerous liquid and gas disinfection systems. Maintaining a consistent chemical application rate at intermittent peak flow factors as high as four, Blue Crystal tablets provide reliable effluent disinfection even when the significant runoff period is six hours. When used as directed in any approved, gravity flow chlorinator, Blue Crystal tablets allow residential treatment systems to meet regulatory disinfection requirements with a product that is inexpensive, safe and easy to use. Bio-Sanitizer disinfecting tablets are specially formulated to provide safe, efficient and reliable disinfection of water or wastewater flows. Bio-Sanitizer tablets provide treatment plant operators a consistent way to meet disinfection standards without exceeding stringent limits for total residual chlorine. Registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Canadian Ministry of the Environment, Bio-Sanitizer tablets are a preferred, safe alternative to dangerous liquid and gas disinfection systems. Bio-Sanitizer tablets insure reliable disinfection rates up to intermittent peak flow factors of four and maintain a uniform chlorination rate even when the significant runoff period is six hours. When used as directed in any approved, gravity flow chlorinator, Bio-Sanitizer tablets provide positive disinfection and inhibit bacteria regrowth. Bio-Sanitizer disinfecting tablets are packaged in easy to open, resealable 45 lb. and 100 lb. Department of Transportation approved containers.  45 lb. is approximately 144 tables by weight; 100 lb is approximately 320 tablets.

Midge Fly Impact on Wastewater

Midge flies, or chronomids, commonly occur in wastewater treatment plants and pond systems.  The red worm that forms the midge loves the nutrient-rich conditions in a wastewater treatment plant and feeds off bacteria and sludge.  The worms will eat mixed liquor and once transformed into adults, clog filters and buildings entrances.  Some operators have told us they couldn’t see past their hand in some buildings.

Red worms, also called blood worms, are found in mixed liquor.  Over a period of ten days the eggs hatch into red worms and then pass through the pupa stage to become adult midge flies.  With no aquatic life to feed on the midges, their life cycle runs uninterrupted, and they multiply fast. If left alone midge flies will cause poor settling, high TSS, and disrupt the bacterial environment.

*There is no LC50 for aquatic organisms except for mosquito larvae.  All other organisms except nuisance flies and midges Psychoda, Chironomus, and Chironomine are not affected by the product.  Minnows, fish, Daphnia, even other aquatic insects can’t be killed by the toxin in the formulation.  AquaBac XT is specific to mosquito, blackfly and midge larvae and again is not toxic to anything in the application sites except the larvae of these targets.  The LC50 against susceptible mosquito larvae averages 0.15 micrograms per milliliter
